What I Got For My 15th Birthday!

So, if you didn’t know, on the 8th of August 2017 I turned 15.  For the day, me, my mum and my brother went to Bristol to do some shopping and we also visited a cat cafe, which was so lovely!  All the cats were so cute, and the kittens there were absolutely gorgeous; I could’ve 100% taken them all home with me.  Judging by the picture below, I’m pretty sure that you can tell how cute all the cats were and that I was in crazy cat lady heaven!

little kitty

Anyway, in the morning I opened all of my cards and presents.  A lot of my relatives gave me money, which is great as I really love to buy myself my own bits on my birthday: I’m pretty bad a surprises, however the ones I did get this year were so amazing and totally perfect for me!

My Grandma got me some face masks from Superdrug, and a hair mask!  I have a massive obsession with the little face masks that come in packets; they’re really convenient and always make my skin feel super soft, so I really can’t wait to use these. I’ve been waiting to take pictures for this post before using them, so now I have I can have myself a lovely little pamper session! You can expect reviews of these, or maybe even a spa night post, I haven’t decided!

I also got a huge surprise from my brother, which I totally didn’t expect but absolutely love and have wanted forever!  He got me the Friends box set!  This is such a great thing to get me, because now I can catch up on all the episodes and my favourite bits before I go to Friends Fest in Oxford on the 24th – I’m so excited! I’ve already watched most of season 1, and I’m so happy to be watching it again.  Have you seen Friends, it’s clearly one of my favourites!

friends and pandora

As you can tell in the picture above, I also bought myself a pandora ring with my birthday money!  I’ve wanted one for ages, and when I saw this I thought it was so pretty!  It was £35, and I’ve worn it every day since!

I also bought myself the Urban Decay Naked palette, and now I kind of want to collect all of them.  I can tell this will be my palette of choice over autumn and winter; it has so many gorgeous shimmery shades and some great cool toned mattes, so it’s pretty much perfect!  This was £39.50, and because it was my birthday, the lady serving me gave me some free samples which was amazing; I got the primer potion and perversion mascara, both of which I have tested and can say I really like!

muchnaked

And the final thing I received from all my friends the day after my birthday.  This was such a lovely surprise, and I can’t wait to get some gorgeous pictures with it!  They got me the Instax Mini 8 polaroid camera in white, which is so pretty and looks so beautiful in my room. They also got me some fairy lights and pegs so that I could hang up some pictures I take, and some cool camera lenses to go with it!  They’re so generous and this was such a special present; thank you to all of you, if you’re reading this!

Ok so thats everything I got for my birthday!  I still have loads of birthday money left to spend, so I’m thinking I might buy another ring or some more makeup, or save it until all the autumnal clothes come out in shops (I am really excited for autumn if you couldn’t tell!)

Also, thank you for 100 instagram followers!  Make sure you’re following me over there, im @lovesophblog_

Making You Feel Better During That Time Of The Month: Betty Box Review

Recently, Betty Box got in touch with me asking if I’d like to review their monthly subscription box which is centred around your period and designed especially for teen girls (although I can imagine that people who aren’t teenagers would love this too, it is just full of great bits and bobs that really help you feel that bit more normal during that time of the month!), and of course I jumped at the chance and said yes!  This box is filled with loads of treats to make your period less of a pain, and because you design it when you subscribe, it comes with the sanitary products you love and know work for you – all for £6.99 for your first box, then £10.50 every month after.  For the price, what you get is such a bargain!

So, how exactly does Betty Box work? I wondered the exact same, because of course, everyone’s periods are different, they fall at different times of the month and need all sorts of products.  Betty box has such a unique and personalised subscription service, so the box you receive every month is perfectly tailored to you and your body!

  • The box contains everything you’ll need to get you through the month, in a handy little pouch labelled ‘for now’, you receive liners and pads, in a box labelled ‘for later’, you receive your choice of sanitary products for the daytime, and in a box labelled ‘for night’, you receive your choice of products for the nighttime!  It’s so customisable, as Betty Box have loads of brands to choose from, and you can get a selection of all pads, all tampons, or a mixed selection!  I chose to have a mixed selection of products, in order to truly test out everything.  Betty Box have all sorts of brands, including Always, Body Form, Tampax, Lil Lets and Kotex – you’re sure to find something that you use or that works for you and your body with their huge selection!
  • Once you’ve made your box by going online and choosing all the sanitary products you want in there, you then pick a delivery date.  At first, this is where I thought how can a box like this work if there is only one date it is delivered on.  Of course, there isn’t just one date – there are three!  This way you choose either the 10th, 20th or 28th of the month to have your box sent to you, so it comes in time for your period!

Betty Box is a teen version of the popular subscription box for periods called ‘Pink Parcel’, and they also have a website, Betty.Me, where they write about everything and anything you could want to read about: style, lifestyle, body and people.  It’s like an online magazine!

Anyway, I’m sure you’re all here to see what is inside the box – so let’s get on to it!

IMG_4023

So, in the box you get a huge variety of things: I was so excited whilst unpacking this!  In the box labelled ‘for night’, I got four longer length nighttime pads, in the box labelled ‘for later’ I got three pads and fourteen tampons, and in that gorgeous striped pouch I got six liners and three pads.  So far, I would say that you’ve got a huge bargain for what you’re paying, as you have enough to last you through your period (just about, I know I would need a little more than this but for the average light-medium period, this is perfect!).  Also, can we just talk about the packaging on this: it’s so bright and happy, so it’ll really help to brighten your mood when you might be feeling a bit down in the dumps!

IMG_4027

The pouch full of liners and pads is so great. I love this addition as not only does it add some variety to the box and break up the flow of boxes within a box, but it’s super useful!  I know that I’ll be taking this in my bag with me now, and it’s nice and compact but still manages to fit enough into it for what you’ll need.  Plus, the hot pink and blue stripes are so vibrant and summery!

IMG_4031

These two boxes of supplies I really loved, not only for the fun packaging but I really like the way they open.  It makes the products so accessible and you can just have these in your cupboard and it’s easy to grab what you need!

Now, onto the bit of the box I was most excited about: ‘For You’. This box is filled with lovely bits and bobs to make you feel nice and special, and it did not disappoint! Plus, you get decently sized items and not very tiny samples, which is always a plus!

IMG_4034

So, this is everything you get in the box.  A total of eight things, that are amazing quality, alongside a little magazine which gives loads of information on all the products, what’s not to like? My personal favourite so far has been the Candy Kittens, but I might be a bit biased because I love anything that is sweets and cats related, so put the two together and you’ve got my attention!  Plus, they tasted like blueberry and weren’t overly sour, which is just what I like!

IMG_4040

Another one of my favourites from the box, and something I have been wearing all the time since receiving it, has been this Lisa Angel bracelet.  I love dainty jewellery, it looks so understated yet still so gorgeous, and this is no exception! I can see me wearing this with so many things, and I am loving the combination of rose gold and silver together, which is something I might not have gone for had I have seen it in shops.

IMG_4049

I also really loved these hair ties, which I have always been so dubious about, but I’m so glad I got the chance to try them!  You know the ones, the scary plastic springy loops that claim to be ‘snag free’ and that they’ll ‘leave your hair without marks after wear’ – well they’re not lying!  These really are so comfy to wear and my hair doesn’t get damaged by them, which proves that even the thinnest of hair works with these guys!  Plus, the gorgeous neon coral colour is perfect for summer, and these not only look great in your hair but when you’ve got them around your wrist they’re the perfect addition to any outfit!

The box also contained the coconut and coffee scrub by Scrub Love: I’ve always been so interested in coffee based scrubs, but never actually gotten round to trying them.  Let me tell you, I tried this tonight and its so good! Seriously, my skin hasn’t felt as soft in a long time!  The smell of coffee is very strong, and the mixture of coconut is really quite unique, I imagine it is quite an acquired scent – if you don’t like the strong smell of coffee then you might not like this.  However, I love a good coffee smell, and I found this one particularly revitalising!  The scent does linger on your skin for a while afterwards, which is great, but I would probably mask it with a body lotion if I was going to be around people because I think it smells a little strong and you might not at first identify it as coffee.  However, this super gentle scrub makes my skin feel luxuriously soft and I really love it!

IMG_4051

This Anatomicals hair mask was also included, which I know I’m going to love.  I always get on really well with anatomicals products and I’m sure this will be no exception; plus, the packaging is always really fun which makes for a nice product usually!

IMG_4052

These were the final three items, and I am so excited to try them out.  The nail polish is a gorgeous pale mint shade and is from L’oreal, and the Korres bath milk smells of bergamot and pear – I think it will be lovely and summery and I am really excited to try it out.  Having used the face wash by Balanceme, I can assure you that it is great!  It felt super natural and the scent wasn’t overpowering, and it left my face feeling soft and clean!

So, that’s the end of this post!  I was so happy with this Betty Box, its great value for money and something I’d really recommend to everyone!

Also, thank you for 400 followers!  That is so insane – comment a way you think I should celebrate!

Beauty UK Review

The lovely team over at Beauty UK have sent me some products to try and review for you guys, and I’ve really loved all of them!  Some of the colours are quite out there, and not necessairly what I’d choose but it’s always really fun to experiment.  It included lots of pink shades, which are perfect for spring but as I’m more of a neutral shades sort of girl, it’s helped to push me out of my comfort zone and try new things (like the hot pink nail polish which I’m absolutely loving!).  Sorry for the constant reviews at the moment guys – I will be getting some more varied posts up soon but for now I’ve been really excited to review all these gorgeous products.

IMG_3826

Starting off with the product I was most excited to receive: the Ultimate Pro Contour Palette.  I’m not good at contouring at all, but I’m very excited to start practising!  This palette has a really wide range of colours, which are both contouring and highlighting ones.  The undertones are quite cool for the contour shades though the very far one has got a slight orange base, which could easily be used to bronze the face.  The shades are highly pigmented and as it is a cream formula they blend really nicely and have flawless application.  I’m sure that after I’ve used this a little more I’ll be able to contour like a very bad pro – the infographic on the back of the packaging is really helpful to let you know where to contour, bronze and highlight and provides useful information on the product.  The packaging is matte black, meaning it could be a magnet for makeup covered finger prints though it can be wiped down easily and it looks very luxury.

IMG_3854

IMG_3860IMG_3859

Next up is another cream product.  I’ve never really ventured into the world of cream face makeup, but I’m really glad I’ve now got some products which are of that nature as they are really versatile and lovely. I was sent a cream blush to review, the Sweet Cheeks cream blush in the shade peachy cream.  This cream blush is easy to blend and has great pigmentation, the colour is perfect for spring and suits a range of skin tones. I’m really pale and it gives me a nice, healthy glow and I imagine it would look lovely in summer with a nice tan (a girl can dream!)

IMG_3845IMG_3835

I was also sent a matte lip cream, which as we all know, are huge in the beauty world and I too have latched onto the trend and purchased a few too many.  My favourite brand is NYX for matte lip creams, though the ones by Beauty UK are quite comparable.  I was sent the Lips Matter matte lip cream in the shade Mauve Your Body, and it really is great.  It dries matte almost instantly and has great pigmentation.  One thing I find with liquid lipstick/matte lip creams is that they can be sticky when dry, but this isn’t, which is always a major plus.  However, I wouldn’t say this is true to shade.  It definitely is not a mauve shade, but more of a hot pink, and I would definitely compare the shade to NYX’s soft matte lip cream in Milan (review here). Whilst it’s still a nice shade and will be lovely for summer when you really want a bold, vibrant pop of pink, it most definitely is not a mauve. The packaging is lovely and really professional looking, I especially love the white banding and writing; it’s very modern.  The applicator is a doe foot style so it fits to the natural shape of your lips nicely allowing even application.

IMG_3848IMG_3830

I was sent a lipgloss, which was a real surprise to receive as I haven’t used one in a long time!  I was never a huge lipgloss lover, I often found them sticky and annoying as my hair would get blown into it and stuck there.  However, when I opened this I was excited to try it out and maybe find a new love for lipgloss?  The lipgloss I was sent was the Glacier Gloss in Peach For The Sky.  This is not a super pigmented shade, but it does give a nice peachy gloss to the lips and is perfect for an everyday wear.  It is very moisturising and isn’t super sticky but still quite sticky and not all smooth on the lips.  The application is nice though and it glides on quite effortlessly.  I adore the packaging – the glossy black lid with the clear top to it is very luxurious and the design process seems to have been very thorough for the lipgloss and all these other products!

IMG_3852IMG_3847

The very last thing I was sent was a nail polish.  Now, I am not a nail guru in any way shape or form and my nails are not nice; they’re usually never painted and are never one length.  If I do wear nail polish I chip it within a day or smudge it; I’m really not very dainty.  However, getting this through the post has inspired me to paint my nails and while I didnt use this exact colour, I used a blue/turquoise/green from Avon, I’m really loving it and so far there’s no damage!  Anyway, onto the nail polish I was sent in the shade Pink Pop.  This is a really bold shade and could make a real statement to an outfit, which I’m all for.  The colour is highly pigmented after a couple of coats on the nail it is fully opaque.  The formula edges a little towards the gloopy side but if you give a good shake to the bottle before you use it, you should be fine.  I look forward to using this colour more and more as we edge into the spring and summer months and I think it’ll be really nice to make an outfit that bit more exciting; nail polish can really finish off a look.

IMG_3850IMG_3844

Finally, here are some swatches of the blush, matte lip and gloss in order!  As you can see, the peachy blush is very soft and delicate (on the very top) and so is the gloss (on the very bottom) but I wouldn’t say that the middle shade is very mauve, as it was described to be.  Nonetheless it is lovely and I will be wearing it lots!

Have you ever tried some of beauty UK’s cosmetics before? Hope you enjoyed the post and leave any suggetions you have for upcoming posts below as my ideas are fast depleting!

One Lovely Blog Award

My post from my nomination of the one lovely blog award & my nominees for it!

Featured image taken by me of a stream near my house.

The lovely Alanna from imagalaxygirl nominated me (in a fashion) for the One Lovely Blog Award!  I loved the way she nominated people for this: it was so that if you were a particular like, so say you were the 20th like, and she had said that the 20th like was to be nominated , then you were nominated.  It was really creative, I just explain things atrociously so you’ll have to go check out her post to find out how she did it! Again, thank you to Alanna and I’ll get onto the rules of the award.

Rules:

  • Each nominee must THANK the person who nominated them and link their blog in the post.
  • They must include the rules and add the blog award badge as an image
  • Must add 7 facts about them.
  • Then nominate 15 people!

Seven Facts About Me:

In all honesty, there isn’t much to know about me that I don’t think you all know already, so some of these facts are a little weird and random as I’ve had a really hard timing coming up with them!

  1. I am not a very creative person.  That’s right – I may be a blogger but I am the least artistic person I know.  I used to be into writing stories a while ago, and would like to do that a little more sometimes but I always get stuck halfway through, give up and forget about it.  My dream was to be an author when I was a lot younger and first got into reading, but now I’m not at all sure what I’d like to do.  I envy people who can draw well or have a natural gift at writing narrative!
  2. I often indulge in a little retail therapy.  I love shopping, which may or may not be a little sad though I feel like many of you are in the same boat.  Ever since I was younger, one of my favourite activities was to go shopping but back then I’d just raid Disney Store and Claire’s Accessories and waste my money.  Now, I love to shop in Topshop and Hollister mainly.  I actually went shopping last weekend and did some pretty serious damage to my bank account – I consider myself on a spending ban for the rest of the month!
  3. I am really bad at falling asleep on a nighttime.  I find it so hard to fall asleep at night, and then I end up staying awake all night long and waking up in the morning feeling like pure rubbish!  I have improved slightly since I’ve started taking melatonin more often and limiting myself to the time I have on my phone before I go to bed (a quick tip for anyone like me would be to turn the brightness of your phone all the way down and turn night shift on when you’re looking at it in the dark as it is less of a strain on your eyes!)
  4. I’m doing DofE.  That’s right, lazy old me is completing my Duke of Edinburgh award!  I’m at the bronze level, and I was regretting it whilst we were on our ten mile practice walk a couple of weekends ago; the weather was horrible!  It rained the most part, and at one point we were climbing a hill which was really muddy and it started to hail and I fell down the hill! It was a great laugh and I enjoyed being with my friends but it was equally tiring and freezing.  For my physical section I’m doing walking/hiking – I’m not a sporty person so this was an option I felt was good and I can achieve easily on weekends with my family.  My skills section is gardening which is actually more fun than I’d expected and since this is the section I’m doing for 6 months it means I’ll get to enjoy my garden in the summer more.  For volunteering I’m looking to volunteer in some local charity shops and someone got back to me today and arranged a meeting on Saturday which I’m slightly nervous for but all in all everything is turning out pretty good!
  5. I still play Pokemon Go.  Yep, I’m that guy!  I got hooked when it first came out and although I don’t leave my bedroom very often (living a really fun reclusive life if any of you were wondering) to go catch pokemon, I do enjoy it whilst I’m out and about!  I’m a level sixteen now & I have caught some pretty decent pokemon – I still have a small moment of joy when I see a pikachu!  It may be sad, but I’m not giving up on it any time soon!  Do any of you still play it or am I alone in this game?
  6. One of my biggest obsessions (aside from cats!) is makeup.  Like you couldn’t have guessed this, I’m a bit of a makeup fanatic.  I have a whole dressing table drawer brimming with the stuff, and it never stops growing!  I’m thinking of maybe buying the Alex Drawers from ikea in their five set to store some of my makeup in, as I don’t think I’ll ever collect enough to fill the nine drawers but I reckon that five full drawers is pretty achievable!
  7. I would love to travel when I’m older.  The idea of continuing school after college and going on to get a more ‘professional’ job like a doctor or a vet really doesn’t appeal to me.  I haven’t actually got a single clue what I would like to do after college, but I’m 99% sure it’s not going to be university.  I’d love to travel, and I’m always so inspired by Charlotte from CHARLOTTE J.  She’s travelling solo at the moment and I would love to do something like that!  The place at the top of my list is Iceland to see the northern lights and go in the lagoons, though I’d also love to go backpacking around Europe and try to visit as many of the cities as I can.  The one place I’d really love to go is Italy, because as of this far in my fourteen years I’ve never been!

  My Nominees:

  1. Charlotte from CHARLOTTE J
  2. Harriet from Harriet Day
  3. Jess from Sunshine and Teacups
  4. Naomi from Withlovenaomi
  5. Najida from The Average Gurl
  6. Jules from Blonde’s Tea
  7. PaleGirlRambling

I only have seven nominations for this post, and of course I can understand that blog award posts become slightly tedious – do not worry, I won’t be offended if you don’t post it!

Blog Awards

A couple of blog awards I’ve recently been nominated for!

Featured image taken by me: Tribute wall of tiles dedicated to aids in Bournemouth.  I thought it was really creative.

I’m dropping you in an extra post this week, you’ll (maybe?) be pleased to hear!  I didn’t think that a post such as blog awards constituted for a Saturday/Wednesday post however I really wanted to do this and I’m going to start doing the blog awards which I do receive during the week as extra posts instead of being lazy and ignoring them as I always do – I think they’re really positive ways to express your admiration of a blog and get blogs you value noticed by others.

The lovely Chloe from Marble Beauty nominated me for two blogger awards, which I am extremely grateful for!  Chloe’s blog is one I love so much – she’s incredibly active and posts quality content literally every day.  You really do need to go follow her, I guarantee you’ll love her posts just as much as I do.  I was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award and the Versatile Blogger Award.  Like Chloe, I’ll be leaving my nominees for both awards at the end of the post so make sure to stay tuned!

The Mystery Blogger Award

Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well.
  • Tell your readers three things about yourself.
  • Answer 5 questions from the nominator.
  • Nominate 10 or more people
  • Notify your nominees by leaving the nomination link in the “comments” of their blog
  • Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny question (specify)

The creator of this award is OkotoEnigma.

Three Things About Myself:

  1. I used to really love reading when I was younger (like 10,11,12 years old) and would devour a book in a day.  I never really read much anymore, unless I’m on holiday when I can finish a good ten books in a week!  I’d love to get back into reading though, but I read in school and it’s so boring there so I’m never in the mood to do it at home.
  2. I love more literary subjects at school like English or History.  My brain is definitely not mathematically or logically minded; I’m horrible at chemistry, maths and physics but I can do biology and actually really enjoy it.
  3. I like to think I’m a tidy, organised person and a bit of a neat freak but in reality I’m such a mess and that definitely reflects in the state of my bedroom!

Questions From Marble Beauty:

  1. What is your all time favourite makeup item? – I absolutely adore mascara and couldn’t live without it, my favourite has to be Benefit’s Roller Lash.
  2. Best holiday you ever went on? – My favourite holiday has to be my two and a half weeks I spent in the south of France in 2015 in the French Riviera.  We went to St. Tropez, and visited lots of rivers which I swam in (they were pretty chilly but it was warm when you got out, so it was fine).  My favourite place has to be Pont Du Gard in Avingon area, it was so lovely and swimming in it was amazing – there were lots of little fish and the water was so warm.  Plus, the supermarkets in Avingon are insane, they’re great all over France actually.  Hopefully we’ll be going back when I’ve finished my GCSEs!
  3. Favourite way to spend your free time? – This sounds like a question from my recent French speaking exam! I usually like to cosy up in my bed or on the sofa with my laptop and phone and just browse the internet and maybe play some Sims which is my complete obsession.  I usually have chocolate with me too, my diet is just shocking!
  4. If you could have any animal as a pet, what would you choose? – I have two cats, whom I love so dearly and couldn’t live without.  Cats are my favourite animal, but I wont be classic crazy cat lady and answer this question with ‘more cats’.  I’d actually really love a tiger for a pet, they look so fluffy and cuddly, although I’m sure they’d probably rip my face off!
  5. What are your top 3 staple clothing items? – I’d probably say black joni jeans from Topshop, I wear these literally all the time.  Then a light jacket, such as one I’ve been really loving from Hollister recently – it’s khaki and goes with almost everything.  Finally, I’d say white converse – I wear these with pretty much every outfit and they always go!  I’m so basic haha!

My Questions:

  1. What are you wearing?
  2. What is your ultimate comfort food?
  3. Which song reminds you of a holiday?
  4. When was the last time you went shopping?
  5. If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?

Versatile Blogger Award

Again, this nomination came from Marble Beauty!

The Rules:

  • You have to thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog!
  • Nominate at least 15 bloggers of your choice.
  • Link the nominees and inform them about their nomination.
  • Share 7 facts about yourself (being truthful!)

My Facts:

  1. I don’t clean my makeup brushes and tools anywhere near as often as I should.  I can see them now and they really need a clean!
  2. I’m absolutely addicted to Ed Sheeran’s new album, Divide.  It’s playing right now, and my favourite song has to be ‘What do I know?’ or ‘Nancy Mulligan’ – I especially think Nancy Mulligan is so sweet as it’s about his grandfather, William, and Nancy is his grandmother!
  3. I’m the biggest procrastinator that you’ll find! All my homework is left until the very last minute, e.g 10:30pm the night before it’s due, or at lunch on the same day it’s due.  However, I do sometimes  have extremely productive days, which can be odd and quite disconcerting!
  4. I’m a big person in writing things down!  My desk cupboards are filled with beautiful, half filled notebooks of random ideas.  The thing is, I never finish them and I still buy more.  I have enough to sink a ship!
  5. My favourite country I’ve been to has to be France, and I would really love to visit Australia and the Maldives.
  6. When I’m older I honestly have no clue what I want to do for a job, but I was thinking about doing biology A-Level.  I know I don’t want to go to uni, and I’d love to work with animals.
  7. I really don’t want children, they annoy the hell out of me and I don’t think I could stand having any!

My Nominees For Both Awards:

  1. Alanna
  2. Elin
  3. Amelia
  4. Madi
  5. Tash

I only nominated five, but of course if you’d like to do one of these awards feel free – you’re all nominated!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette Review

Well my God am I excited to be writing this post!  I’d been waiting just under a week for possibly the most exciting thing I ever ordered to arrive and when it did I just knew I’d love it as soon as I opened the box.  It is, if you hadn’t figured, The Too Faced Sweet Peach palette!  This was limited edition in the Summer and I had one reserved at Debenhams to buy with my birthday money, but it sold out and my reservation no longer existed, so I sat lusting over everyone else’s palettes whilst I remained peach-less, until the joyous day in December when I found out that Debenhams were in fact restocking along with the launch of the Sweet Peach Collection – and it’s there to stay!  If you want to buy this palette from Debenhams, click here – it’s £39.00 very well spent in my opinion.

Anyway, I decided that like my Chocolate Bar Palette Review, I would review yet another amazing palette brought to us on this earth by the Gods from Too Faced!  I’ve got everything; swatches, packaging and actual eye shadow photos – and don’t doubt that I’ll be creating a look or two with this palette soon! So, lets get into it I guess.

img_3735

So, as you can see, the palette doesn’t look dissimilar to the other larger ones that Too Faced have out, such as the Chocolate Bar series. It has eighteen shades in it, all to do with peaches or being very peachy toned or generally quite neutral.  I love how it incorporates pops of colour into this quite daytime, neutral palette – shades such as candied peach and just peachy are a welcomed pop of bright almost neon pink and slightly shimmery less neon pink.  The green shade, bless her heart, is really nice as it does still fit into the peach theme, without being too neutral.

As always, the shadows are amazingly easy to blend and highly pigmented.  The shimmery ones are more pigmented than the mattes but only slightly, yet they both blend really nicely and easily.  They have a professional finish to them which I think helps this palette to appeal to everyone: you definitely don’t have to be a pro makeup artist to use this – look at me, I’m not good at makeup at all and even I have still found it easy to create looks with.  You can always follow the mini beauty leaflet to tell you about how to create specific looks.

The packaging is as always very gorgeous, heavy duty and luxurious.  I especially love how soft the peachy gradient is and the peach indents on the lid.  The palette itself smells so lovely, like a really summery smoothie – it reminds me of holidays.

Onto the actual eyeshadow swatches and shades now, I’m doing it in blocks of six going downwards.  Here’s a picture of the palette inside so that you can compare the swatches to the shadows in pan.

Okay so starting with the first section, we have the neutrals.  From bottom to top we have white peach, then nectar, then peaches n cream, then luscious, then cobbler, then georgia. Out of all these shades, luscious is undoubtedly my favourite.  It’s a gorgeous champagne-silver colour which is so shimmery and the shimmer is really thick on the lid so the colour payoff is great.  As you can see, the shades are visible under both bad lighting and no flash (rip my non-existent photography skills) or under flash, even the lighter ones such as white peach are just visible on my very pale skin, but show up great on a well primed eyelid (I like to use Benefit’s stay don’t stray, which you can find a mini review on here in my high end makeup collection post).

Onto the next six, we have the more peachy shades in the palette.  From bottom to top here we have just peachy, then candied peach, then caramelised, then bless her heart, then bellini, and finally puree.  From this section, and actually from the whole palette, similar to other lovers of this palette, my favourite shade is bellini.  This is a beautiful shade of pink shimmer which looks amazing packed onto the eyelid with a look really centralised around the more peach shades in this palette.  I also love the two shades just peachy and candied peach and they’re probably the most used shades for my transition colours on my eye!

Onto the last section, where the palette goes into darker colours which I do feel may slightly slip away from the peachy theme – nonetheless they are still really nice & I actually use these a lot, even though some of these darker shades may seem a little unwearable.  From bottom to top here we have got talk derby to me, then peach pit, then summer yum, then charmed i’m sure, then delectable and finally tempting.  This part of the palette houses my favourite matte shade in the palette, summer yum, which I often wear in my crease as it’s really nice and warm – I’m already in the mood for spring, winter is starting to annoy me, so I’m pulling out my warmer toned eyeshadows which usually consist of brighter shades, but if found this matte colour to work really nicely.  In my swatches, tempting and talk derby to me both look very similar, and whilst they are not on total opposite ends of the colour spectrum, they still do have significant differences.

So, there goes the whole palette over view.  I really love this palette, I think it’s easily  a match to the original Chocolate Bar palette, which I have and which is and will remain well loved!  The shadows in formula and pigmentation are lovely and I think this is for sure a great staple to have in your makeup collection!

My Top Five Christmas Songs!

Hi Guys!

2nd December

Today I’m here for the second day of Blogmas with my top five favourite Christmas songs! I love so many Christmas songs, and I found it so hard to choose these five.  If you’re looking for a great place to find all sorts of Christmas music in many a different playlist, I recommend Spotify;  you’ll probably all know about it already, but Spotify is the hub of music!  Zoe Sugg has an amazing Christmas playlist!  You should check it out! I’m going to be including links to the YouTube videos for all these songs, but you can find them all on spotify!

  • Fairytale Of New York, The Pouges & Kirsty McColl – This has to be my ultimate favourite Christmas song ever!  I love Fairytale Of New York, it’s definitely a good one to sing along to.  My friends and I do a particularly good duet performed in PE when we are desperately bored!
  • Merry Christmas Everyone, Shakin Stevens – This is one of my all time favourites and is always on in my house around Christmas time!
  • Last Christmas, Wham – This one is the major heart breaking one on my list, and I’ll listen to it a billion times whenever  I can!
  • All I Want For Christmas, Mariah Carey – This one is the one you always sing along to, and you’ll never be able to sing it well, but you’re never going to stop trying!
  • Mary’s Boy Child/Oh My Lord, Boney M- I feel like I didn’t really know about this properly until about three years ago, although it had been played in my house apparently ever since I was a baby!  It’s just so jolly and nice and I really love this, it definitely is the sort of song to get stuck in your head!!

So, I hope you enjoyed this post about my favourite Christmas songs.  What is your favourite Christmas song?  Are there any I haven’t included on this list that should be there?  Tell me in the comments!

Carving Pumpkins For Halloween!

Hi Guys!

Today I’m actually bringing you this post in collaboration with my friend Becca (blog here). Bex is also doing a post on her pumpkins, and when we went round to her house to carve them.  We also made pumpkin soup and roasted the pumpkin seeds.  So if you’d like to see that make sure to go check it out once you’ve read this post!

I though’t I’d take you through my pumpkin carving process step by step, although you all probably know how to do it!  This way you can at least see how I carved my pumpkins!  All the photos were taken by Alex, my brother, so thank you Al.

Okay so first, here’s everything I used (minus a black binbag and some sellotape)!  So i had a large pumpkin and a smaller pumpkin to carve, and I also got the carving kit from Tesco.  I’d actually really recommend this because it did help me carve through the pumpkin easily and not break one of my Mum’s knives.  Plus the big red spoon for scraping out the insides was great!  The stencil of the ghost was printed out from google images, just search ‘pumpkin carving stencils’ and loads will come up!

I first cut all the black bits out of the ghost until it looked like this.  This part was really fiddly, especially with the huge scissors I used.  I’d recommend using small scissors, even like nail scissors or something for the eyes.  However I did manage, and the stencil worked perfectly fine.

After this, stick your stencil onto the pumpkin with sellotape and draw it on.  I used a plain biro which I wouldn’t recommend because it was really hard to get off, i had to make sure I cut onto the lines directly.  Instead, use a sharpie and use hairspray/styling spray and a cotton pad to get rid of it.  I found it helpful to mark the places I needed to cut out with an X so I didn’t get confused.

After this, I took the pumpkin outside and began to cut the hole in the top.  I found a trick online where you cut the hole on top and a ‘door’ type thing in the back connecting to it.  Not only did this make it miles easier to scrape the insides out of, it’s easier to get a tealight in there to light it up.  Make sure to cut all the pumpkin gunk off the door/lid thing too.  The red scoopy spoon here was amazing at removing all the gunk, because it had a serrated side and a pasta-strainer type side which was really good at ragging the seeds and stuff out.  As you can see, I am very very excited about that spoon.

After all the inside gunk was out and binned, I began cutting the design out of my pumpkin.  This was really easy because of the knives that came with the carving kit.   They got around corners really easily and were strong and didn’t bend (until Alex viciously carved his pumpkin with them!).  Plus they had a serrated edge meaning they got through hard pumpkins easily!

After this, I was finished!  My pumpkin was carved and I had a cute little ghost pumpkin staring back at me.  My phone died so I couldn’t force Alex to photograph me as I carved the other one, but place your bets now on what I carved into it (and whether you’re going to be able to recognise it…!)

That’s right, it is a cat!  A cat and a ghost to suit all your halloweeny needs, you don’t have to thank me.  Alex carved two pumpkins also, and wanted me to show you them.  Here goes our little pumpkin family!!

And here they are in the dark, candles burning! However my ghost one did blow out and I couldnt be bothered to light it up again!

So, thats all for my pumpkin carving antics!  Remember to check out Becca’s blog post here to see what we got up to at her house!  Have you carved your pumpkins yet?  Tweet me a photo @ZalfieFanatic – I’d love to see what you’re getting up to!
