Making You Feel Better During That Time Of The Month: Betty Box Review

Recently, Betty Box got in touch with me asking if I’d like to review their monthly subscription box which is centred around your period and designed especially for teen girls (although I can imagine that people who aren’t teenagers would love this too, it is just full of great bits and bobs that really help you feel that bit more normal during that time of the month!), and of course I jumped at the chance and said yes!  This box is filled with loads of treats to make your period less of a pain, and because you design it when you subscribe, it comes with the sanitary products you love and know work for you – all for £6.99 for your first box, then £10.50 every month after.  For the price, what you get is such a bargain!

So, how exactly does Betty Box work? I wondered the exact same, because of course, everyone’s periods are different, they fall at different times of the month and need all sorts of products.  Betty box has such a unique and personalised subscription service, so the box you receive every month is perfectly tailored to you and your body!

  • The box contains everything you’ll need to get you through the month, in a handy little pouch labelled ‘for now’, you receive liners and pads, in a box labelled ‘for later’, you receive your choice of sanitary products for the daytime, and in a box labelled ‘for night’, you receive your choice of products for the nighttime!  It’s so customisable, as Betty Box have loads of brands to choose from, and you can get a selection of all pads, all tampons, or a mixed selection!  I chose to have a mixed selection of products, in order to truly test out everything.  Betty Box have all sorts of brands, including Always, Body Form, Tampax, Lil Lets and Kotex – you’re sure to find something that you use or that works for you and your body with their huge selection!
  • Once you’ve made your box by going online and choosing all the sanitary products you want in there, you then pick a delivery date.  At first, this is where I thought how can a box like this work if there is only one date it is delivered on.  Of course, there isn’t just one date – there are three!  This way you choose either the 10th, 20th or 28th of the month to have your box sent to you, so it comes in time for your period!

Betty Box is a teen version of the popular subscription box for periods called ‘Pink Parcel’, and they also have a website, Betty.Me, where they write about everything and anything you could want to read about: style, lifestyle, body and people.  It’s like an online magazine!

Anyway, I’m sure you’re all here to see what is inside the box – so let’s get on to it!

IMG_4023

So, in the box you get a huge variety of things: I was so excited whilst unpacking this!  In the box labelled ‘for night’, I got four longer length nighttime pads, in the box labelled ‘for later’ I got three pads and fourteen tampons, and in that gorgeous striped pouch I got six liners and three pads.  So far, I would say that you’ve got a huge bargain for what you’re paying, as you have enough to last you through your period (just about, I know I would need a little more than this but for the average light-medium period, this is perfect!).  Also, can we just talk about the packaging on this: it’s so bright and happy, so it’ll really help to brighten your mood when you might be feeling a bit down in the dumps!

IMG_4027

The pouch full of liners and pads is so great. I love this addition as not only does it add some variety to the box and break up the flow of boxes within a box, but it’s super useful!  I know that I’ll be taking this in my bag with me now, and it’s nice and compact but still manages to fit enough into it for what you’ll need.  Plus, the hot pink and blue stripes are so vibrant and summery!

IMG_4031

These two boxes of supplies I really loved, not only for the fun packaging but I really like the way they open.  It makes the products so accessible and you can just have these in your cupboard and it’s easy to grab what you need!

Now, onto the bit of the box I was most excited about: ‘For You’. This box is filled with lovely bits and bobs to make you feel nice and special, and it did not disappoint! Plus, you get decently sized items and not very tiny samples, which is always a plus!

IMG_4034

So, this is everything you get in the box.  A total of eight things, that are amazing quality, alongside a little magazine which gives loads of information on all the products, what’s not to like? My personal favourite so far has been the Candy Kittens, but I might be a bit biased because I love anything that is sweets and cats related, so put the two together and you’ve got my attention!  Plus, they tasted like blueberry and weren’t overly sour, which is just what I like!

IMG_4040

Another one of my favourites from the box, and something I have been wearing all the time since receiving it, has been this Lisa Angel bracelet.  I love dainty jewellery, it looks so understated yet still so gorgeous, and this is no exception! I can see me wearing this with so many things, and I am loving the combination of rose gold and silver together, which is something I might not have gone for had I have seen it in shops.

IMG_4049

I also really loved these hair ties, which I have always been so dubious about, but I’m so glad I got the chance to try them!  You know the ones, the scary plastic springy loops that claim to be ‘snag free’ and that they’ll ‘leave your hair without marks after wear’ – well they’re not lying!  These really are so comfy to wear and my hair doesn’t get damaged by them, which proves that even the thinnest of hair works with these guys!  Plus, the gorgeous neon coral colour is perfect for summer, and these not only look great in your hair but when you’ve got them around your wrist they’re the perfect addition to any outfit!

The box also contained the coconut and coffee scrub by Scrub Love: I’ve always been so interested in coffee based scrubs, but never actually gotten round to trying them.  Let me tell you, I tried this tonight and its so good! Seriously, my skin hasn’t felt as soft in a long time!  The smell of coffee is very strong, and the mixture of coconut is really quite unique, I imagine it is quite an acquired scent – if you don’t like the strong smell of coffee then you might not like this.  However, I love a good coffee smell, and I found this one particularly revitalising!  The scent does linger on your skin for a while afterwards, which is great, but I would probably mask it with a body lotion if I was going to be around people because I think it smells a little strong and you might not at first identify it as coffee.  However, this super gentle scrub makes my skin feel luxuriously soft and I really love it!

IMG_4051

This Anatomicals hair mask was also included, which I know I’m going to love.  I always get on really well with anatomicals products and I’m sure this will be no exception; plus, the packaging is always really fun which makes for a nice product usually!

IMG_4052

These were the final three items, and I am so excited to try them out.  The nail polish is a gorgeous pale mint shade and is from L’oreal, and the Korres bath milk smells of bergamot and pear – I think it will be lovely and summery and I am really excited to try it out.  Having used the face wash by Balanceme, I can assure you that it is great!  It felt super natural and the scent wasn’t overpowering, and it left my face feeling soft and clean!

So, that’s the end of this post!  I was so happy with this Betty Box, its great value for money and something I’d really recommend to everyone!

Also, thank you for 400 followers!  That is so insane – comment a way you think I should celebrate!

February Favourites

I feel like I haven’t blogged in a while which is probably true as I have missed a week, but it was my first week back at school and I had lots of tests and quizzes (all of which I did okay on, even getting an A in Chemistry which is my weakest subject so I was so happy with that!).  I should be back into the swing of things after this week, as I sit my Food Technology GCSE on the very day you are reading this – in fact, I will have done it by the time this is posted.  I can’t wait to have it over and done with and I really hope I can achieve the merit or better still distinction I am hoping for.

Onto the actual post, I’m coming at you with a February favourites and what I’ve been loving in this month.  I’m not sure how everyone feels about favourites posts – I feel like they can end up all too common at the end of the month, every man and his dog are doing them and your readers are littered with very similar posts.  Nonetheless, they can always be interesting to see what someone has been loving! Make sure to tell me in the comments if favourites posts are something you’d like to see more often.

img_3990

So, first off I’ll start with makeup products.  There isn’t too much here but definitely some things I have really been enjoying!  First up is the NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade ruffle trim.  This is a more recent purchase which I bought in Bournemouth at the weekend, but i have been wearing it ever since and it is becoming a staple in my lip collection!  It’s a very natural colour, a dark pinky-mauve-nude and I will say one thing; it is very, very matte.  And with extremely matte things not only comes a gorgeous look but insane dryness of the lips.  I try not to use this too often just because it does in fact make my lips feel like the Sahara desert (a good lip balm is very necessary – I reviewed these ones the other week which I’ve been using and they’re great!) however I’m willing to sacrifice my lips to it because it’s so damn pretty!  The formula dries matte very fast and is very lightweight so not noticeable at all apart from if you smack your lips together, which is when it can be quite sticky.  The applicator is long and quite thin which makes it relatively hard to apply, unlike a doe foot applicator, however it is still rather easy.

img_3991

Then I have this lipstick from Jack Wills which I got for Christmas from a friend but have just recently started to use as it is a very pink-nude spring time colour and although right now the UK is not screaming spring (thanks Doris for ruining my week!), I for one cannot wait for warmer weather, which naturally I reflect in my lipstick taste!  It’s very moisturising and the colour payoff is lovely – it does tend to look bad on chapped lips so do make sure they’re treated with lip balm for a few days before you wear this.  The packaging is a matte navy with silver accents which I think is very chic and appropriate for Jack Wills.

img_3994

Last is not a lip product but actually an eyebrow gel by Pixi.  I never before realised just how crucial an eyebrow gel can be in your makeup routine until I got this in my M&S beauty calendar and have used it ever since.  I think it really polishes off a makeup look, and the copper lettering on it (although it has slightly worn off now) is absolutely gorgeous.img_3993

Next up is skincare.  I’ve recently been using the Neutrogena grapefruit face wash and not only is the bottle very aesthetically pleasing, the product is amazing!  The scent really wakes you up on a morning, but isn’t strong enough to irritate even the driest, most sensitive skin (aka mine).  It makes your skin feel very soft and super clean!  I’ve also been using the Superdrug hydrating face mask which you can see my review on here , but it has totally been my skin saviour during these freezing storms we’ve been having.

img_3988

img_3987.jpg

Next up is the Garnier Micellar Water which I’ve re-purchased and been using again.  I cannot get over how amazing this product is, it’s hyped up in the beauty world for such a good reason – it hydrated your skin whilst literally removing makeup with one stroke.  It’s such a miracle product, everyone needs this in their skincare routine.

In my apparent hunt for spring, I’ve been loving fresh, fruity scents.  I’ve been using the body sprays from hollister more and more often than usual this month and one which I often use is Pallisade Beach.  This smells so fruity and tropical, very reminiscent of summer for me!  I always have one in my school bag and a couple at home and I seem to go through these like wildfire – it’s a good job that hollister have offers of 3 for 2 on them more than often.

img_3996.jpg

Last but not least is my diary. I got this for Christmas and have loved using it to help me organise my week and all the homework I have.  I think that especially for GCSE students, a diary is essential.  My school uses an online homework facility but as great as it is for accessing it anywhere and a good functioning tick list system, it never keeps me fully organised.  I love to use my diary to plan every aspect of my week, from school work to blog posts to what I’m doing at the weekend.  I’ve also included a picture of what a typical weekly spread in my diary might look like, although it’s not super artistic like some you see!

Hope you enjoyed this post – do we have any of the same favourites this month?  Sorry about the appalling pictures, it was dark when I took them and that was the only free slot of time I had to write and produce this post.  I’ll update them by the weekend when I’ve got much more free time!  Wish me luck on my GCSE, lets hope it went ok!

T-Zone Nose Pore Strips Review

I love sharing products with you guys that I’ve found which I think are really good, and it occurred to me that I don’t ever really share anything I don’t really like.  I decided to bring you a quick extra post explaining why I don’t like the T-Zone Nose Pore Strips.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

I purchased these for £3.00 whilst in Tesco, and I was excited to try them as I thought I’d potentially found a really good budget beauty product which I was looking to incorporate into my routine.  I have pretty dry skin, and because these seemed a little more ‘natural’, what with the tea tree & witch hazel ingredients, I thought they’d be nice and gentle unlike other nose pore strips I’d read about.

These did nothing other than dry out my already dry skin!  They barely stuck down to my nose at first, so it was a real task trying to get that to happen and when it finally did it still kept peeling away at the edges.  It didn’t feel like it was doing anything at any stage, and when I lifted it off (after much struggling over the bridge of my nose, it was practically glued on) it hadn’t removed any of the dirt and oil it claimed to remove.  All it did was make my nose look red and the skin on and around it feel dry and tight for the rest of the week.  I have actually found an amazing face mask from superdrug which is curing this dryness but it was really annoying to find this happen.

There’s not very much I liked about these, considering they didn’t do much for me.  They smell quite nice and clean and fresh which was nice and the packaging seemed quite luxurious for the price with each strip being individually wrapped in it’s own packet.  That was a nice touch.  The shape of the strips themselves fit quite comfortably on my nose

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Overall, these nose pore strips are good value however they don’t really do much – I’ll be trying some more soon from brands I’ve heard great things about so make sure to follow me on twitter here to keep up with how I got on with those.  I wouldn’t recommend these, though if any of you have had more positive experiences with them then I’d love to hear about it in the comments.  Maybe they work better on oilier skin?

I hope you enjoyed hearing a more negative opinion on something on my blog for once and enjoyed this sneaky extra post – I’m on my half term so I’ll be posting a little more frequently this week.

Also, a quick thing to ask you guys very kindly if you’d nominate me in the teen blogger awards which you can do here.  Of course you should also go and nominate all your other favourite teen bloggers (13-19), I know I have!

My New Years Resolutions

Hi guys,

Quick announcement, the name of my blog has changed from I’m A Zalfie Fanatic to Love, Soph.  It may still be subject to change, but please tell me your opinions on the new blog name in the comments!

Welcome to 2017!  I’m ready for this year and I really want to make it as good for me and hopefully better than 2016.  It’s a shame I had to start off my year with History revision, but moving aside from that depressing fact, I’m here today to tell you about my resolutions for 2017.

I know, it may seem shocking that I’m serious about doing these resolutions, but I really am.  Hopefully by doing this I’ll make my 2017 a positive and more organised experience for myself.

  1. Eat Healthy: I’ve got some ideas of healthy meals, most from my pinterest, which I’d like to follow, especially for breakfast and lunch.  I’m the biggest culprit for missing breakfast, dying of starvation until lunch and then proceeding to gorge on an easy packet of crisps and chocolate bar I found in my cupboard for lunch.  I’m planning on making nice salads and wraps.  I don’t know, we’ll see how long this lasts.  As you can imagine, this has been the subject of much hilarity in my house this past week or so.
  2. Exercise: I really don’t exercise enough.  I’m not overweight but I feel like if I exercised more often I’d feel a lot healthier as person and I am looking to tone up too, especially for summer (I’m lazy so yes, it will take me half of the year to tone up).
  3. Drinking more water:  I need to quit my drinking of fizzy drinks and sugary things hopefully down to just water.  I’ve been drinking a considerably good amount today and I’m hoping for this to make me healthier and also clear up my skin!
  4. Do my homework the night I get it: I am such a procrastinator, so I’ll always leave my homework until the night before it is due, and then it ends up being really bad!  If I do it the night that I get it then the knowledge from my lessons will be fresh in my mind and I can do it better, I hope!
  5. Waking up early: and hopefully going to bed at a more sensible time than 4am too.  My body clock has honestly been ruined by my staying up too late and waking up at 3pm (don’t judge me, my bed is just so comfy).  I’m wanting to wake up by 6:30pm on weekdays because usually I’m up at 8:10am, ten minutes before I should go to school.  Waking  up earlier I hope will make me more tired and I’ll fall asleep before 1am?  We can only hope!
  6. Developing my blog:  This year will be the year that my blog flourishes!  I’m hoping to have made it to 500 by the end of 2017, if I do I will be so happy.  I want to produce quality content for you all, and my new posting schedule will be 6PM (GMT) on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  There will be lots of reviews and I have a few exciting posts coming up!  I would really like to go self hosted, but I don’t think I know enough about it or about blogging in general to do that just yet.

Now, after my resolutions I always have smaller, less important goals or achievements. This year I would like to read at least ten 19th/20th century novels, so any recommendations of your favourites are welcome!  I want to start to save money.  Finally, I want to do well in school and record all of my test results so that I can see how I improve.

I hope you’ve all had a fulfilling and busy start to the year.  Bring on 2017!

Garnier Micellar Water Review

Hi guys,

12th December!

Sorry I didn’t blog over the weekend; I was at a sleepover where I got around half an hour of sleep at about 7am, and then was tired all of Sunday so I slept on the sofa and had a mental breakdown about my biology which I think *touch wood* went okay, and my English which was a creative writing mock GCSE assessment and considering I wrote about talking gorillas that didn’t go as well as I’d hoped.  Anyway, I’m not here to rant today, I am here to continue blogmas as I should do!

Whilst today’s post isn’t very Christmassy, I still wanted to do it for you.  I recently bought the Garnier Micellar Water and I thought I’d do a little review because I really rather like this product and I guess that I’ll add to all the reviews online raving about it for you!

img_3568

Okay, so firstly packaging.  I got the pink one, which is the on the go size, even though I’m sure they do the big one in pink, but I swear there are other colours.  Anyway, aside from the different colours thing, I really like the packaging.  It’s really pretty and its also very sturdy.  I had it crammed into a washbag this weekend and to my surprise it didn’t burst or leak!

The formula is really nice.  It’s very powerful but also soothing and cooling, so I think it would be totally fine for sensitive skin.  I have quite dry skin in the winter time and I found it to be really quite moisturising and not drying like some all in one/all over makeup removers can be.  It really cleans your face, which makes it great for travel and for those of us who despise skincare routines and want things over and done with very quickly.  It removed all my face makeup with barely a few swipes, and my eye makeup came off so easily with this, no rubbing or horrible oily solution in your eyes which prevents you from seeing properly.  I had lots of mascara on too which came off with ease, and to that I was so very happy.

I only got the 125ml bottle, which wont last me ages but will last me a long enough time, and next time I will be buying the large bottle – this makeup remover is wonderful. Anyone looking for a refreshing, quick makeup remover should totally go for it.  If you’re doubtful, get the smaller size like I did.

Have you tried the Garnier Micellar Water?  If you have, leave your thoughts in the comments – I’d love to know what other people think!

Technic Makeup Review

Hi Guys,

Today I have a really exciting post for you all, the makeup brand Technic have sent me some of their products to review, which is really exciting!  I’ve been sent five products, all of which I’m going to review for you in this post.

Technic flat lay.jpg

The first thing Technic sent me was the Contour Stix, which are cream contour sticks in a light shade which is a brightening type shade, a brown shade which is the contour shade and a shimmery pink shade which is a gorgeous highlight.  The shades are all very pigmented which you can see in the swatches below.  They blend really easily, and the formula is very creamy.

Next up was the Strobe Kit, which reminds me a lot of the sleek solstice palette.  Theres two cream highlighters and two powder ones, in pinky shades and more yellowy-gold shades.  The cream shades are very easy to blend, and they have great pigmentation. The powder shades are also very easy to blend, and the pinkier one has great pigmentation, though the slightly yellower one has less pigmentation however they are both very well pigmented.

Next up is the Primer Spray.  I haven’t yet tested out this, however I love the idea of primer in a spray and I think it would be very conveinent.  It’s also quite tacky as a finish so I imagine it would hold on your makeup well.

img_2885-1

Next up is the Get Gorgeous bronze highlighting powder.  Oh my god, do I love this product. The colour is so pigmented and I love how the product is moulded into that waved sort of a pattern.  It honestly has the nicest shimmer and looks so luxurious.

Last up is the Mega Nudes 4 eyeshadow palette.  This is so gorgeous and has all and every shade you would ever need to create any look.  It’s such a good makeup palette and the shades are all so pigmented.  The shimmer shades are especially pigmented, while the matte ones are slightly less pigmented.  All the shades are so easy to blend and they’re really creamy.

That was it for my blog post today guys!  Again, massive thanks to technic for sending me these products for review, it’s been amazing working with them and the team was so helpful.  All their products are so amazing.

High End Makeup Collection

Hi guys!

Today (after a week, which was my back to school down time before I begin my Saturday/Wednesday blogging schedule, which I’m starting today) I’m bringing you an overveiw of all my high end makeup!  Compared to some people, I really don’t have much at all.  Compared to some people, you may think I have a lot.

high-end-makeup-collection

Firstly I have my MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Foundation. Now, don’t kill me for saying this but I really don’t like MAC foundations.  I feel like they always make me look a bit spotty, and there are drugstore equivalents which are honestly better, and for a fraction of the £30.00 price tag!  And, there are probably many better high end foundations also.  I do use this sometimes, however when I do I always want to revert back to my drugstore foundations.  When I have used this up, I won’t buy another.  I also have always had bad experinces at MAC counters/stores, and that never makes me feel happy about whatever I’m buying.

mac-foundation

Next up is my Benefit Watts Up.  I love benefit – all their proucts are amazing quality, and the packaging is to die for!  Watts up gives an amazing, bronzed, glowing highlight which is especially amazing in the summertime.  In the winter I don’t use it as much as I prefer cooler, more white/pink highlights however for the summer this is great.  The only part I dislike so to say, is the sponge, which I rarely use as it seems a bit flimsy, however some people may like it – I prefer to use my own sponge.watts-up-closed

Next up is another Benefit product; Stay Don’t Stray.  My most recent high end purchase which I got in the duty free in Ibiza.  Honestly, I love this product.  It is a primer for concealer and eyeshadow (concealer unde the eyes) and I use it daily.  I encorporated it into my routine as soon as I got it and will be buying another when it runs out! It has such a creamy formula.  It’s also great for when I’m feeling lazy as the coverage is amazing so I can just use it in replacement of undereye concealer.

Next up is my baby, my one and only Too Faced Chocolate Bar.  I love Too Faced products, especially the eyeshadows!  If you’re ever going to buy any high end makeup, I would always reccomend you invest in an eyeshadow palette as they last so long and you can create so many looks with them!  I use my Chocolate Bar daily and I am hoping to get the Semi-Sweet for christmas!

Last up is my Clinique lipstick in the shade All Heart.  I got two of these full sized lipsticks given to me a few years ago for being ‘good whilst my mum chose her skincare’ by the shop assistant.  I think they possibly underestimated my age a little, but none the less I was delighted to get them! Both lipsticks are still going strong now!  I use these whenever I want an everyday red that is going to last me all day and give me a load of moisture too!  The colour is on the pinkier side of red, which is good for me as I feel pinkier tones work better with my skin.  The formula is veyr creamy and moisturising, and still manages to last all day.

So that’s all the high end makeup I have.  I hope you enjoyed todays post.  If any of you have any high end makeup, what is it and what is your favourite?
