My Haircare Routine

An overview of my favourite products to use on my hair at the moment!

An overview of my favourite products to use on my hair at the moment!

Haircare isn’t something I really talk about a lot on my blog, and it also isn’t something I’m super conscious of.  In all honesty, I’m like most people, and my hair is forever a mess of split ends!  However, I do have a current favourite ‘routine’ I’ve settled into and I figured I share it with you.  Just as a bit of background information, my hair is quite long and isn’t in the best of shape, though I refuse to cut any off other than 0.00005cm each time I go to the hairdressers because long hair is my thing.  I also wash it every day or every other day, and it’s quite thin and lacks volume, something which I have tried combatting in my haircare routine!

img_4348

So firstly, my shampoo and conditioner.  I use the L’oreal Elvive Fibrology range which has a thickening conditioner and shampoo.  After a while, I’ve sort of started to find this isn’t doing masses for my hair anymore and I imagine that when I run out of this, I’ll most likely switch to another brand (any recommendations are welcome!).  However, when I started using these I did notice that my hair seemed thicker and a touch more voluminous and easy to style.  img_4349

For me, most of my hair care takes place outside of the shower, and I really love using things overnight.  Due to my hair being pretty thin, it tends to get very knotty and scraggly looking within a day, hence why I have to brush it so much.  To make sure it stays soft, I really love these following couple of things!

img_4353

Firstly, I use the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Shine Deep Treatment.  Now, if I use this for three minutes as advised,  I don’t really notice much of a difference.  Everything seems a little softer, but for really silky smooth hair, I wet my hair and leave this on overnight.  I wake up with super smooth, silky hair and all I have to do is wash it out!  I also use this Josh Wood Radiant Shine hair treatment oil which I apply overnight to dry or wet hair, usually just to my horrifically damaged ends and it helps my hair look a touch more glowy and feel more soft in the morning!

img_4355

Whenever I really feel like pushing the boat out (which, let me inform you is not often – I’m lazy as heck) then I’ll use these two!  I use the Philip Kingsley elasticizer before shampoo and I find it helps to give my hair that extra bounce, and the Percy Reed Wonder Balm when I feel my hair needs more moisture, again I use this overnight on wet hair.

img_4351

The final product I use on my wet hair just before I’m about to dry it, and I use a few pumps and run it through my hair for some body and bounce!

Hope you enjoyed reading about the products I use on my hair!  What haircare products are your favourite?

My Everyday Makeup Bag – Collab!

Today I’m doing a collab which is always exciting.  This post is in collaboration with Maleehah from Beauty Filled Blog.  She’s so lovely and an amazing blogger, you should all go check out her blog and follow her!  Her post is also going to be about what things she keeps in her makeup bag on a daily basis, so make sure to go check it out!

Anyway, today I’m bringing you a closer look into what I’m using at the moment makeup wise.  This changes so often, and since I took the pictures from this post I’ve started using a new concealer!  There are some products which will never change because they’re so perfect for everyday and I love to use them, like my powder and my mascara, but others are always subject to change.  I don’t wear too much makeup on a daily basis, considering I’m in school a lot of the time and on a morning a full blown makeup routine can take quite some time – plus, I much prefer sleep!  However, I do wear some every day and this is usually what it consists of!

img_4273

First up we have suncream.  I’ll admit, I don’t do this every day, but when I do the one I would use is the ultrasun face.  It’s perfect for sitting under makeup, and it’s always really important to have a sun protection factor on your face to protect it; this one is factor 30.

img_4277

Next up would be concealer.  Like most people, I have fallen in love with the collection lasting perfection concealer.  This one is amazing, and for such an inexpensive price the lasting time and coverage is amazing, not to mention the creamy formula.  I love this one so much, and even when I do change concealers I always end up back with this!

img_4279

My mascara of choice is benefit’s roller lash, which by now you must know I adore.  I don’t know how many times I’ve raved about this mascara, but it works total magic. My eyelashes go from boring to curly and long and fluttery within minutes, and it lasts so well.  It doesn’t have a cheap, greasy formula that imprints onto your eyelids which I find so many other concealers do; this is so perfect for the hot days we’ve been having recently (can I just say THANK YOU ENGLAND!).

I always use a lip balm, and burt’s bees will forever hit the spot on that one.  My favourite one is the peppermint one.  It’s very revitalising and it makes my lipstick apply so smooth.  My lips are never chapped when I use this!

img_4274

I always use the rimmel stay matte powder, which I’m sure everyone is familiar with by now.  This is the best, most affordable powder ever and it keeps me looking matte all day long.  Need I say more!

Highlight and blush are something that are essential pieces of my routine. Too faced do amazing blushes and I love this one in the shade love flush.  It’s creamy, long lasting and pigmented, plus, the packaging is adorable!  Too faced never fail to impress me when it comes to packaging.

img_4285img_4282

For highlight, recently I’ve been loving Technics palette which I reviewed a while ago.  It’s nicely pigmented and while it doesn’t last for ages it does have a nice staying power.  Plus, it’s a much more affordable option to the sleek solstice palette.

img_4275

Because it’s getting more summery at the moment, I’ve been using my peach palette literally every day!  The too faced eyeshadow palettes are more than impressive, and if you want to see a full review on it you can click here!

Finally, I love using the too faced melted liquid lipsticks.  The shade chihuahua is my favourite, because it’s just so natural and easy to go with everything.  These feel so smooth and barely there when you have them on, but the colour payoff is amazing.

img_4273

Hope you enjoyed taking a closer look into what products I use on a daily basis.  Make sure to check out Maleehah’s post too!  Also, just as a warning I have my year ten exams coming up soon and revision is killing me so I might not be posting twice a week, but I’ll aim for once a week either on a saturday or a wednesday.  I would love to do a post on revision to help some of you out, so if you’d like to see that make sure to leave a comment!

Boux Avenue Haul

A haul from boux avenue featuring some very cute pyjamas and an exciting life update!

Before I get into what is the mains of the post (the very unexciting haul I’ve order online from my fave shop for pyjamas/underwear ever) I just wanted to give you a small life update.  I haven’t posted in a while and I wanted to say that I’m sorry, posts will be a touch more regular now but I’ve been pretty busy and going back to school is never fun; you know, the general excuses!  However, back on the 1st March I sat my Food Technology GCSE exam – it’s actually a VCert, which still counts as a GCSE qualification but the course isn’t the usual GCSE one.  Anyway, they way they mark it is graded by question, and they add up the grades at the end: say if all of my questions were graded merit (roughly a B) but one was a pass (C), then my grade would drop to pass – same happens if all your questions are at distinction (A-A* level) but one is a merit, pass or even a not yet achieved (a D), your grade drops to the lowest.  It is the most unfair grading system ever, but it is what it is; when I came out of the exam hall in March, like everyone else, I was sure I’d failed.  There was a question about allergens and we’d never seen anything like it before.  Anyway, we got our results back yesterday at break and I GOT A DISTINCTION!!!  I was shaking so much, I had mentally prepared myself for a pass at best because of that one bloody question, but apparently my efforts were good enough because I got the best grade you can get!  I am so over the moon and honestly it made me so happy yesterday: if I can get distinction level on all units of coursework now (ones already down as a distinction because the moderators have been in to mark them) then i can get a distinction* as my overall grade!!  So, as you can see things are going pretty well at the moment – I also got an 8 (A*) in my recent geography assesment so fingers crossed I’ve done okay in history and biology too.

Anyway, onto the main part of this post and what you’re all here for – the haul.  Recently I spied that Boux Avenue had a sale and I went to snap up some bargains, along with some non sale items too.  All of which are pyjamas because I literally live in mine so I see no harm in having an extensive wardrobe filled with them.

img_4198

I got three things overall: a pair of pyjama shorts, some longer pyjama bottoms and a set with an adorable giraffe on the front!

img_4204

Starting with the shorts.  I got them for eight pounds in the sale, though I think that usually they’re ten or twelve pounds.  They have this gorgeous pink floral design on them and the fabric has a silk look to it, though I’m sure it’s not actually silk!  They’re very glam looking and so comfortable – I love a good pair of pyjama shorts, they’re so comfy to sleep in when the weather gets warmer and Boux Avenue have some amazing ones in stock at the moment (Primark also do really cheap shorts to sleep in which are so cute, but these from Boux are pretty gorgeous!).  The quality is great, they don’t feel cheap or flimsy and the ribbon is really nicely sewn together – I know that sounds like a weird thing to say but sometimes the ribbons made out of this sort of material that is kind of silk like can look really weirdly or sloppily sewn but these arent.  I love the pattern too, it’s really girly and feminine but the dark black background makes it look more sophisticated and less HI-I-AM-A-PINK-FLOWERY-SCENE!  The ribbon is also adjustable and you can pull it tighter to make it fit nicer around the waist, which is always helpful if you’ve got a smaller waist or build in general.

img_4205

The next pair I got are these long, white polka dot pyjama bottoms.  I’m wearing them now and I can 100% honestly say they’re comfy as heck. These usually retail for £20, however I caught them in the sale at £10 – they have loads of styles so I’d really recommend checking them out!  Anyway, as some of you may know I’m pretty lanky and twig like, and with such height comes a need for long pyjama bottoms.  I’ve had some from Boux Avenue before which are more of a flannel material and they shrunk pretty easily and became three-quarter-length, not ideal for when you’re wanting long cosy pyjamas.  These are made from cotton so they’re not going to shrink in the wash, plus, they’re really long! I love long pyjama pants, and these are so cute with the polka dots.  They’re very spring themed and I love them!

img_4201

Finally, I got this set of pyjamas for £22.  They’re so comfy and that giraffe is so cute!  They’re a really soft material and have a brushed cotton type feel to them, especially the shorts; they’re so comfy.  I totally love these and they’re really cute for the spring summer time.  Now I can wear seasonal pyjamas *small bouts of excitement*!

Anyway, thats my haul over, it was pretty small but I really love everything I got.  I have a couple of questions for you guys, have you been watching the new PLL series and if so, what do you think of it?  I’m watching the latest episode and I’m loving it so far – also, Riverdale is amazing!  Any other shows I should be watching on Netflix? Also, please leave some post suggestions because I’m lacking inspiration a bit at the moment.

RULES:

  • Post the award on your blog
  • Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you
  • Leave a link to the original tag creator (ThoughtfulTash) to get a bit more info about WHY this tag has been made!
  • Write 10 things you love about YOURSELF and WHY
  • Nominate at least 5 other bloggers
  • In the comments of the blog post, spread more self-love with compliments to each other! THE MORE LOVE THE BETTER!

10 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT MYSELF:

  1. I Love…Being Tall –  Okay so I’m not the tallest girl I know, but I am pretty tall and I really like it.  I feel like it’s so much more convenient for me; I can reach everything in tall spaces and I don’t have to worry about not being able to see things.  I mean it does make buying jeans really hard because I have the gangliest spider legs that exist with really long arms too so everything is just a little bit short on my arms and legs but hey, tallness is cool.
  2. I Love…My Freckles – I’m the most typical pale girl covered in freckles and oh my god sometimes I totally despise them, but recently, as I’ve been getting (dare I say it?!) a slight tan, they’re blending into my skin a little bit and I really like them.
  3. I Love…My Spontaneity – Look, don’t get me wrong I am so anti social it’s insane but I like to think I’m quite spontaneous; I don’t zoom out on cute, instagram worthy adventures at the drop of a hat but I’m quite adaptable and I can be persuaded to do something pretty easily?
  4. I Love…My Love For Animals – I adore animals (apart from spiders and wasps, I could never see them again and it would be too soon) and I would never be able to live without them!  I adore my cats (here she goes again, a fifteen hour-long rant on her cats) and literally all other animals are so great and pure.  Give me any animal and I will love it so much.  Plus, people who love animals are easier to trust, right?
  5. I Love…How Outgoing I am – I can get along with everyone, even if I don’t really like them (please don’t be deceived by this – I like you all!) and I feel like I’m quite an easy to get along with person myself.  I mean I’m probably not and everyone is probably screaming at me like ‘no we hate you’ but at least I can think this and how much I appreciate that quality of myself!
  6. I Love…My Humor – I am incredibly sarcastic, if you couldn’t tell, and I often put myself down with a good old self-deprecating joke but I secretly love to joke about myself and I laugh at basically anything.
  7. I Love…My Love Of Makeup – Well doesn’t this sound a bit shallow?  Am I desperate to find things to love? Maybe. NO!  Here’s the thing; I am so unartistic it’s just mad like I can’t draw a cat it’s that bad.  But, I feel like since I invest a lot of time and money into makeup and my face sometimes looks like a bit okay and well done. Sometimes my eyeshadow looks passable and it makes me feel nice and confident, plus I really enjoy doing it so yeah, I love it.
  8. I Love…My Resilience  – I bounce back very easily from difficult and stressful situations.  If something bad happens to me or something remotely stressing then I feel like I get back up and deal with it head on without trying to ignore it; very little effects me and makes me feel down really.
  9. I Love…My Eyes – I’ve always thought my eyes were a bit weird, they’re all the ‘generic’ eye colours (I say very loosely).  They are blue-green and they have a weird  brown tinge to them round the pupil.  I never really liked them but more recently I’ve started to enjoy them more!
  10. I Love…My Blog – As much as I’m the worst at producing decent content or actually updating my blog, I love it and feel like it’s a part of me.  It’s really helped me over the years to gain confidence (even though I wasn’t a super shy person in the first place) and to improve writing skills.  It’s just an experience I don’t think many people get to go through (even though they totally could and should!) and I’m really glad I’ve got it as part of me.

MY NOMINEES:

  1. Marble Beauty
  2. Okaaythen
  3. Pale Girl Rambling
  4. Elly, A Hufflepuff’s Thoughts
  5. Skyyjade

Of course, these people I have nominated but if you want to do this tag then please feel free!  I am so happy that Tash created this, it’s such an important tag for people to do!  Everyone needs a little self-love every so often!

Gobsmacked Lipsticks Review

Recently, the lovely Sophie from Gobsmacked Lipsticks sent me one of her lipsticks to try, and boy am I impressed!  Gobsmacked is a new brand, launching in August 2017 and they are all about making vegan lipsticks that don’t contain any nasty and potentially dangerous chemicals.  I used to think that eco-friendly lipsticks/cosmetics meant that the final product would suffer in quality, but this lipstick has proved me so wrong; if anything, it has more staying power than lipsticks I usually use such as Rimmel London ones or Collection ones!

img_4147

As you can see, the packaging looks very luxurious, and the gold band compliments the bamboo tube really nicely.  The lid fits onto the base of the lipstick really nicely, and pulls off really smoothly which is always something I look for in a lipstick; quality packaging is so important!  The tube feels really sturdy and nice to hold.

The formula is amazing, it’s very smooth and doesn’t drag on your lips – it glides really nicely.  It smells divine, and is very moisturising all the while having a demi-matte type finish.  It’s very pigmented and has an amazing hold, it lasts me a whole day at school easily.

img_4149

The shade is so nice.  It looks very mauvey purple, but it’s a very wearable dark nude which I’m really enjoying wearing whilst we’re on the run up to spring, although it does seem like we are in summer today; it’s been 27 degrees in my garden (i’m just a little burnt!).

You should definitely check out these lipsticks when they’re all up and running in August – I’m positive everyone will love these because there really is a shade for everyone!

P.S – Thank you so much for 300 followers going on for 310!  What should I do to celebrate, make sure to leave me a comment xx!

Beauty UK Review

The lovely team over at Beauty UK have sent me some products to try and review for you guys, and I’ve really loved all of them!  Some of the colours are quite out there, and not necessairly what I’d choose but it’s always really fun to experiment.  It included lots of pink shades, which are perfect for spring but as I’m more of a neutral shades sort of girl, it’s helped to push me out of my comfort zone and try new things (like the hot pink nail polish which I’m absolutely loving!).  Sorry for the constant reviews at the moment guys – I will be getting some more varied posts up soon but for now I’ve been really excited to review all these gorgeous products.

IMG_3826

Starting off with the product I was most excited to receive: the Ultimate Pro Contour Palette.  I’m not good at contouring at all, but I’m very excited to start practising!  This palette has a really wide range of colours, which are both contouring and highlighting ones.  The undertones are quite cool for the contour shades though the very far one has got a slight orange base, which could easily be used to bronze the face.  The shades are highly pigmented and as it is a cream formula they blend really nicely and have flawless application.  I’m sure that after I’ve used this a little more I’ll be able to contour like a very bad pro – the infographic on the back of the packaging is really helpful to let you know where to contour, bronze and highlight and provides useful information on the product.  The packaging is matte black, meaning it could be a magnet for makeup covered finger prints though it can be wiped down easily and it looks very luxury.

IMG_3854

IMG_3860IMG_3859

Next up is another cream product.  I’ve never really ventured into the world of cream face makeup, but I’m really glad I’ve now got some products which are of that nature as they are really versatile and lovely. I was sent a cream blush to review, the Sweet Cheeks cream blush in the shade peachy cream.  This cream blush is easy to blend and has great pigmentation, the colour is perfect for spring and suits a range of skin tones. I’m really pale and it gives me a nice, healthy glow and I imagine it would look lovely in summer with a nice tan (a girl can dream!)

IMG_3845IMG_3835

I was also sent a matte lip cream, which as we all know, are huge in the beauty world and I too have latched onto the trend and purchased a few too many.  My favourite brand is NYX for matte lip creams, though the ones by Beauty UK are quite comparable.  I was sent the Lips Matter matte lip cream in the shade Mauve Your Body, and it really is great.  It dries matte almost instantly and has great pigmentation.  One thing I find with liquid lipstick/matte lip creams is that they can be sticky when dry, but this isn’t, which is always a major plus.  However, I wouldn’t say this is true to shade.  It definitely is not a mauve shade, but more of a hot pink, and I would definitely compare the shade to NYX’s soft matte lip cream in Milan (review here). Whilst it’s still a nice shade and will be lovely for summer when you really want a bold, vibrant pop of pink, it most definitely is not a mauve. The packaging is lovely and really professional looking, I especially love the white banding and writing; it’s very modern.  The applicator is a doe foot style so it fits to the natural shape of your lips nicely allowing even application.

IMG_3848IMG_3830

I was sent a lipgloss, which was a real surprise to receive as I haven’t used one in a long time!  I was never a huge lipgloss lover, I often found them sticky and annoying as my hair would get blown into it and stuck there.  However, when I opened this I was excited to try it out and maybe find a new love for lipgloss?  The lipgloss I was sent was the Glacier Gloss in Peach For The Sky.  This is not a super pigmented shade, but it does give a nice peachy gloss to the lips and is perfect for an everyday wear.  It is very moisturising and isn’t super sticky but still quite sticky and not all smooth on the lips.  The application is nice though and it glides on quite effortlessly.  I adore the packaging – the glossy black lid with the clear top to it is very luxurious and the design process seems to have been very thorough for the lipgloss and all these other products!

IMG_3852IMG_3847

The very last thing I was sent was a nail polish.  Now, I am not a nail guru in any way shape or form and my nails are not nice; they’re usually never painted and are never one length.  If I do wear nail polish I chip it within a day or smudge it; I’m really not very dainty.  However, getting this through the post has inspired me to paint my nails and while I didnt use this exact colour, I used a blue/turquoise/green from Avon, I’m really loving it and so far there’s no damage!  Anyway, onto the nail polish I was sent in the shade Pink Pop.  This is a really bold shade and could make a real statement to an outfit, which I’m all for.  The colour is highly pigmented after a couple of coats on the nail it is fully opaque.  The formula edges a little towards the gloopy side but if you give a good shake to the bottle before you use it, you should be fine.  I look forward to using this colour more and more as we edge into the spring and summer months and I think it’ll be really nice to make an outfit that bit more exciting; nail polish can really finish off a look.

IMG_3850IMG_3844

Finally, here are some swatches of the blush, matte lip and gloss in order!  As you can see, the peachy blush is very soft and delicate (on the very top) and so is the gloss (on the very bottom) but I wouldn’t say that the middle shade is very mauve, as it was described to be.  Nonetheless it is lovely and I will be wearing it lots!

IMG_3861

Have you ever tried some of beauty UK’s cosmetics before? Hope you enjoyed the post and leave any suggetions you have for upcoming posts below as my ideas are fast depleting!

One Lovely Blog Award

My post from my nomination of the one lovely blog award & my nominees for it!

Featured image taken by me of a stream near my house.

The lovely Alanna from imagalaxygirl nominated me (in a fashion) for the One Lovely Blog Award!  I loved the way she nominated people for this: it was so that if you were a particular like, so say you were the 20th like, and she had said that the 20th like was to be nominated , then you were nominated.  It was really creative, I just explain things atrociously so you’ll have to go check out her post to find out how she did it! Again, thank you to Alanna and I’ll get onto the rules of the award.

Rules:

  • Each nominee must THANK the person who nominated them and link their blog in the post.
  • They must include the rules and add the blog award badge as an image
  • Must add 7 facts about them.
  • Then nominate 15 people!

Image from Alanna’s post here

Seven Facts About Me:

In all honesty, there isn’t much to know about me that I don’t think you all know already, so some of these facts are a little weird and random as I’ve had a really hard timing coming up with them!

  1. I am not a very creative person.  That’s right – I may be a blogger but I am the least artistic person I know.  I used to be into writing stories a while ago, and would like to do that a little more sometimes but I always get stuck halfway through, give up and forget about it.  My dream was to be an author when I was a lot younger and first got into reading, but now I’m not at all sure what I’d like to do.  I envy people who can draw well or have a natural gift at writing narrative!
  2. I often indulge in a little retail therapy.  I love shopping, which may or may not be a little sad though I feel like many of you are in the same boat.  Ever since I was younger, one of my favourite activities was to go shopping but back then I’d just raid Disney Store and Claire’s Accessories and waste my money.  Now, I love to shop in Topshop and Hollister mainly.  I actually went shopping last weekend and did some pretty serious damage to my bank account – I consider myself on a spending ban for the rest of the month!
  3. I am really bad at falling asleep on a nighttime.  I find it so hard to fall asleep at night, and then I end up staying awake all night long and waking up in the morning feeling like pure rubbish!  I have improved slightly since I’ve started taking melatonin more often and limiting myself to the time I have on my phone before I go to bed (a quick tip for anyone like me would be to turn the brightness of your phone all the way down and turn night shift on when you’re looking at it in the dark as it is less of a strain on your eyes!)
  4. I’m doing DofE.  That’s right, lazy old me is completing my Duke of Edinburgh award!  I’m at the bronze level, and I was regretting it whilst we were on our ten mile practice walk a couple of weekends ago; the weather was horrible!  It rained the most part, and at one point we were climbing a hill which was really muddy and it started to hail and I fell down the hill! It was a great laugh and I enjoyed being with my friends but it was equally tiring and freezing.  For my physical section I’m doing walking/hiking – I’m not a sporty person so this was an option I felt was good and I can achieve easily on weekends with my family.  My skills section is gardening which is actually more fun than I’d expected and since this is the section I’m doing for 6 months it means I’ll get to enjoy my garden in the summer more.  For volunteering I’m looking to volunteer in some local charity shops and someone got back to me today and arranged a meeting on Saturday which I’m slightly nervous for but all in all everything is turning out pretty good!
  5. I still play Pokemon Go.  Yep, I’m that guy!  I got hooked when it first came out and although I don’t leave my bedroom very often (living a really fun reclusive life if any of you were wondering) to go catch pokemon, I do enjoy it whilst I’m out and about!  I’m a level sixteen now & I have caught some pretty decent pokemon – I still have a small moment of joy when I see a pikachu!  It may be sad, but I’m not giving up on it any time soon!  Do any of you still play it or am I alone in this game?
  6. One of my biggest obsessions (aside from cats!) is makeup.  Like you couldn’t have guessed this, I’m a bit of a makeup fanatic.  I have a whole dressing table drawer brimming with the stuff, and it never stops growing!  I’m thinking of maybe buying the Alex Drawers from ikea in their five set to store some of my makeup in, as I don’t think I’ll ever collect enough to fill the nine drawers but I reckon that five full drawers is pretty achievable!
  7. I would love to travel when I’m older.  The idea of continuing school after college and going on to get a more ‘professional’ job like a doctor or a vet really doesn’t appeal to me.  I haven’t actually got a single clue what I would like to do after college, but I’m 99% sure it’s not going to be university.  I’d love to travel, and I’m always so inspired by Charlotte from CHARLOTTE J.  She’s travelling solo at the moment and I would love to do something like that!  The place at the top of my list is Iceland to see the northern lights and go in the lagoons, though I’d also love to go backpacking around Europe and try to visit as many of the cities as I can.  The one place I’d really love to go is Italy, because as of this far in my fourteen years I’ve never been!

  My Nominees:

  1. Charlotte from CHARLOTTE J
  2. Harriet from Harriet Day
  3. Jess from Sunshine and Teacups
  4. Naomi from Withlovenaomi
  5. Najida from The Average Gurl
  6. Jules from Blonde’s Tea
  7. PaleGirlRambling

I only have seven nominations for this post, and of course I can understand that blog award posts become slightly tedious – do not worry, I won’t be offended if you don’t post it!

Technic Makeup Review

Technic is a brand I love and have worked with before in this post, so when they offered to send me out some more of their amazing products to try I was really excited to say yes! I’m really excited to review all the products for you, and if you’d like to see these used in a makeup tutorial on my blog soon then make sure to leave a comment so I know you’ll want to see that. I’ve really loved using this makeup over the past few days and I hope you’ll all enjoy hearing about them.

Starting with my absolute favourite; Mega Lash Mascara!  I first saw this mascara and thought, oh my god, the packaging.  It’s matte black and has silver, bold writing.  It sticks out in my makeup collection and looks so pretty.  The brush is so amazing, it’s really thick and chunky but has lots and lots of tiny bristles all over it which hook your eyelashes and ensure every single one is coated jet black. It gives length to the lashes, all the while creating a beautiful, glamorous, voluminous look.  I think this has become a definite staple in my collection when I want voluminous eyelashes without compromising on the quality of a product; this doesn’t go clumpy, doesn’t make my eyelashes stick together and it never makes them feel heavy, which I feel can sometimes be a bit of a downside to these sorts of mascaras.  Mega Lash ticks all the right boxes!

Up next  is something I was really intrigued about, the Brow Pen.  This is in the shade medium brown, which is actually quite dark, my eyebrows are dark brown and this matched pretty well.  it’s confusing, as it’s a felt pen sort of a nib, so replicates an eyeliner, except the actual tip isn’t flexible and has quite a flat shape to it.  It’s very fluid though, and does an excellent job at defining my eyebrows and giving them structure – it’s easy to create precise hair lines making this ideal for filling in sparse brows.  It does seem to last a long time, the formula actually reminds me of a lip stain or something of a similar longevity.  I really love how thin it is as it’s really comfortable to hold and the packaging is very aesthetically pleasing.  My only downside is that this smells quite alcohol like and therefore could be irritating to some people.

Next up is something I’ve been sent by Technic before, but it was received with open arms! I adore this Get Gorgeous Highlighter and since I have a duplicate of it now I shall be giving it to my Mum as she also really likes it and often pinches mine!  It’s a gorgeous bronze shade, which is very out there for a highlighter in my view – I’m not yet fully confident with wearing such bold highlight!  However, it will look gorgeous in summer and give a lovely bronzed glow to the cheekbones, and could easily be used as an eyeshadow as this has insane pigmentation (swatches to follow!).  The product in the pan is very luxurious, arranged in varying swirls, it looks really impressive!

The next product that Technic sent was their eyeshadow primer which is specially formulated for use with shimmer eyeshadows.  This is really good, and I honestly didn’t expect it to be.  I was thinking along the lines of creasing and not working, or just sitting on the lid awkwardly like a weird liquid eyeshadow but it actually creates a really nice, tacky base for applying eyeshadow to.  Plus, it’s pearly pink shade looks really nice underneath lighter shaded eyeshadows, and you can’t even notice it under darker ones.  It definitely helps eyeshadow to stay on longer.  The packaging is again very attractive – well done Technic on the packaging front, it’s gorgeous!  Again, my only downside would be the slight alcoholic scent to this which isn’t ideal considering it’s going around the eyes.

Finally, I was sent the colour correcting loose powder.  Now, the first thing I do whenever I get a loose powder is I smell it – weird, I know, but you’ll see why.  I hate it when they smell like flowers and old ladies, it really puts me off.  Guess what? This one doesn’t!  Plus, it’s actually so amazing!  It’s not too full coverage but because it has a yellowy tone to it, it really helps to calm and cover some of my mild redness, and it’s really good at absorbing oils and keeping you matte all day. It’s super finely milled so it creates an airbrushed, flawless finish to the face when it’s on.  I really love this, and while it wont ever take over my beloved Rimmel Stay Matte, it’s a close competitor!

And finally, for the swatches.  From top to bottom we have the eyeshadow primer, the brow pen and then the get gorgeous highlighter.  Let’s applaud my artistic skills in drawing that abysmal love heart!

Have you ever tried any makeup from Technic?  What did you make of it?

February Favourites

I feel like I haven’t blogged in a while which is probably true as I have missed a week, but it was my first week back at school and I had lots of tests and quizzes (all of which I did okay on, even getting an A in Chemistry which is my weakest subject so I was so happy with that!).  I should be back into the swing of things after this week, as I sit my Food Technology GCSE on the very day you are reading this – in fact, I will have done it by the time this is posted.  I can’t wait to have it over and done with and I really hope I can achieve the merit or better still distinction I am hoping for.

Onto the actual post, I’m coming at you with a February favourites and what I’ve been loving in this month.  I’m not sure how everyone feels about favourites posts – I feel like they can end up all too common at the end of the month, every man and his dog are doing them and your readers are littered with very similar posts.  Nonetheless, they can always be interesting to see what someone has been loving! Make sure to tell me in the comments if favourites posts are something you’d like to see more often.

So, first off I’ll start with makeup products.  There isn’t too much here but definitely some things I have really been enjoying!  First up is the NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade ruffle trim.  This is a more recent purchase which I bought in Bournemouth at the weekend, but i have been wearing it ever since and it is becoming a staple in my lip collection!  It’s a very natural colour, a dark pinky-mauve-nude and I will say one thing; it is very, very matte.  And with extremely matte things not only comes a gorgeous look but insane dryness of the lips.  I try not to use this too often just because it does in fact make my lips feel like the Sahara desert (a good lip balm is very necessary – I reviewed these ones the other week which I’ve been using and they’re great!) however I’m willing to sacrifice my lips to it because it’s so damn pretty!  The formula dries matte very fast and is very lightweight so not noticeable at all apart from if you smack your lips together, which is when it can be quite sticky.  The applicator is long and quite thin which makes it relatively hard to apply, unlike a doe foot applicator, however it is still rather easy.

Then I have this lipstick from Jack Wills which I got for Christmas from a friend but have just recently started to use as it is a very pink-nude spring time colour and although right now the UK is not screaming spring (thanks Doris for ruining my week!), I for one cannot wait for warmer weather, which naturally I reflect in my lipstick taste!  It’s very moisturising and the colour payoff is lovely – it does tend to look bad on chapped lips so do make sure they’re treated with lip balm for a few days before you wear this.  The packaging is a matte navy with silver accents which I think is very chic and appropriate for Jack Wills.

Last is not a lip product but actually an eyebrow gel by Pixi.  I never before realised just how crucial an eyebrow gel can be in your makeup routine until I got this in my M&S beauty calendar and have used it ever since.  I think it really polishes off a makeup look, and the copper lettering on it (although it has slightly worn off now) is absolutely gorgeous.img_3993

Next up is skincare.  I’ve recently been using the Neutrogena grapefruit face wash and not only is the bottle very aesthetically pleasing, the product is amazing!  The scent really wakes you up on a morning, but isn’t strong enough to irritate even the driest, most sensitive skin (aka mine).  It makes your skin feel very soft and super clean!  I’ve also been using the Superdrug hydrating face mask which you can see my review on here , but it has totally been my skin saviour during these freezing storms we’ve been having.

Next up is the Garnier Micellar Water which I’ve re-purchased and been using again.  I cannot get over how amazing this product is, it’s hyped up in the beauty world for such a good reason – it hydrated your skin whilst literally removing makeup with one stroke.  It’s such a miracle product, everyone needs this in their skincare routine.

In my apparent hunt for spring, I’ve been loving fresh, fruity scents.  I’ve been using the body sprays from hollister more and more often than usual this month and one which I often use is Pallisade Beach.  This smells so fruity and tropical, very reminiscent of summer for me!  I always have one in my school bag and a couple at home and I seem to go through these like wildfire – it’s a good job that hollister have offers of 3 for 2 on them more than often.

img_3996.jpg

Last but not least is my diary. I got this for Christmas and have loved using it to help me organise my week and all the homework I have.  I think that especially for GCSE students, a diary is essential.  My school uses an online homework facility but as great as it is for accessing it anywhere and a good functioning tick list system, it never keeps me fully organised.  I love to use my diary to plan every aspect of my week, from school work to blog posts to what I’m doing at the weekend.  I’ve also included a picture of what a typical weekly spread in my diary might look like, although it’s not super artistic like some you see!

Hope you enjoyed this post – do we have any of the same favourites this month?  Sorry about the appalling pictures, it was dark when I took them and that was the only free slot of time I had to write and produce this post.  I’ll update them by the weekend when I’ve got much more free time!  Wish me luck on my GCSE, lets hope it went ok!

T-Zone Nose Pore Strips Review

I love sharing products with you guys that I’ve found which I think are really good, and it occurred to me that I don’t ever really share anything I don’t really like.  I decided to bring you a quick extra post explaining why I don’t like the T-Zone Nose Pore Strips.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

I purchased these for £3.00 whilst in Tesco, and I was excited to try them as I thought I’d potentially found a really good budget beauty product which I was looking to incorporate into my routine.  I have pretty dry skin, and because these seemed a little more ‘natural’, what with the tea tree & witch hazel ingredients, I thought they’d be nice and gentle unlike other nose pore strips I’d read about.

These did nothing other than dry out my already dry skin!  They barely stuck down to my nose at first, so it was a real task trying to get that to happen and when it finally did it still kept peeling away at the edges.  It didn’t feel like it was doing anything at any stage, and when I lifted it off (after much struggling over the bridge of my nose, it was practically glued on) it hadn’t removed any of the dirt and oil it claimed to remove.  All it did was make my nose look red and the skin on and around it feel dry and tight for the rest of the week.  I have actually found an amazing face mask from superdrug which is curing this dryness but it was really annoying to find this happen.

There’s not very much I liked about these, considering they didn’t do much for me.  They smell quite nice and clean and fresh which was nice and the packaging seemed quite luxurious for the price with each strip being individually wrapped in it’s own packet.  That was a nice touch.  The shape of the strips themselves fit quite comfortably on my nose

Overall, these nose pore strips are good value however they don’t really do much – I’ll be trying some more soon from brands I’ve heard great things about so make sure to follow me on twitter here to keep up with how I got on with those.  I wouldn’t recommend these, though if any of you have had more positive experiences with them then I’d love to hear about it in the comments.  Maybe they work better on oilier skin?

I hope you enjoyed hearing a more negative opinion on something on my blog for once and enjoyed this sneaky extra post – I’m on my half term so I’ll be posting a little more frequently this week.

Also, a quick thing to ask you guys very kindly if you’d nominate me in the teen blogger awards which you can do here.  Of course you should also go and nominate all your other favourite teen bloggers (13-19), I know I have!
